THE FOLD

The Fold exists to provide refuge to children in need, by investing love. The plight of the young and defenseless has always been close to their hearts. Their primary vision is to assist children, who have been ravaged by the loss of family, poverty, disease and abuse. They are located on a farm outside of Vaalwater. They have family style living with indigenous parents and have 8 children in each home. Eight houses are planned, the first four houses are in operation and they hope to have a fifth in the near future.

WHO THEY ARE

A husband and wife team from the United States started a children’s home for vulnerable children in the Waterberg district. It is a home based on solid moral values. They are supported by a Ministry called Prince Ministry in South Africa, and FASA (Fellowship Alliance Southern Africa) supports and manages the organization. Both organizations are non-profits in the United States.

WHERE THEY ARE

Bulge River is situated on the central plateau of the Waterberg Mountains within the Limpopo Province of South Africa. There are multiple suburbs within a half hours drive which have large and extremely impoverished communities. WHAT THEY CURRENTLY DO: They have established a non-profit organization here in South Africa called “The Fold, SA Children’s Home”. They purchased a 37 hectare property 40km outside of Vaalwater. They currently have 4 households on the property, with indigenous house parents, and 8 children in each home. There are plans to build more homes. They are looking for skilled volunteers to assist them.

AIM + MISSIONS

The children are taught English, but will also speak an African language. They will all be taught basic skills such as cooking, cleaning, sewing, gardening, taking care of animals.
School will be up to grade 12, with the possibility of university based on each child’s ability, or vocational training. They will help these children to identify and pursue their dreams.

They want to offer Sports/agriculture/animal husbandry/computer skills, etc. Their goal is to invest in the lives of these children for the long-term benefit of themselves, their village and South Africa. They have opened a private home schooling centre on the property and have hired four teachers. As the classes and grades increase, they will hire additional teachers if they can’t get volunteers to help. The aim is to create a loving and secure environment filled with an atmosphere of contagious joy and promoting a good moral character.

FUNDING

They rely totally on donations from the general public, businesses and the commercial sector. Currently it costs R25 000 per month to run the first household and entire farm and it will be an estimated cost of around R15 000 per month to support each additional household
